FDR & The Great Depression:

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born in January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York and died in April 12, 1945. Born into  very wealthy family, he was privileged enough to meet Grover Cleveland in the White House, and travel around the world. As he got older he had private tutors before he attended Groton (1896-1900). Then he was lucky enough to go to Harvard, (1900-1904). After that he attended Columbia Law School 1904-1907), but he decided not to stay and not graduate. After all of that schooling, he became New York Senate. Around 1913 he became Assistant Secretary Of The Navy. In 1920 he tried running for vice president for Warren Harding, but was defeated by James M. Cox. So he decided to go back to practicing law. And was elected Governor Of New York in 1929-1933.

In 1932 Franklin won the Democratic nomination presidency, against Hoover. With John Nance Garner as his Vice President. His second election was in 1936 against Alf Landon, he still had John Nance Garner as his Vice President. His third reelection was in 1940, against Wendell Willkie. The fourth election was in 1944 against Harry S. Truman.

While he was president he helped push the world through  WorldWarII and The Great Depression. In 1933-1936 he started several economic programs called The New Deal. 91933)Trying to give work relief to the unemployed, and recover all economic drama, Roosevelt made "The First New Deal". Which was aiming for short-term recovery programs called The Alphabet Agencies. Franklin worked with and promoted or implemented banking reform laws, emergency relief programs, work relief programs, agricultural programs, and industrial reform (the NRA), a federal welfare state, as well as the end of the gold standard and prohibition.

The second New Deal (1935-36) was for labor union support, the WPA relief program, the Social Security Act, and programs to aid farmers.

With so much practice, The New Deal ended World War II. And Roosevelt's very words after that were said on December, 1943, "Dr. New Deal" had given way to "Dr. Win the War."

Franklin's true test would be when he had to help fix the 1930's economy from entering. So, the American people looked at  how they would fix the pluming economy so he start  Brain Trust, which was made up of individuals from other governments including professors, lawyers, and others who came to Washington to advise Franklin on economic affairs. Roosevelt liked to learn through listening to experts and then questioning them. In doing so, he became familiar with different points of view. Thus he was able to make up his own mind after considering their input. so he went on the radio called fire chat and started talking to the nation about how we could fix the nations economy. he stared about the bank systems and the economy other concerns. during his chats he would say how he was going to fix the economy so Roosevelt started making new deals. FDIC is insured saving accounts in banks. REA was to loaned money to give electricity to rural areas in America. CCC was created to provided jobs for the men age 18 and 25 year olds. AAA was made to help farmers. WPA was made jobs for people in buildings ,hospitals ,and parks. That was FDR soultions to the great Depression.

                                                                                                   The Great Depression

The Great Depression started on Tuesday October 29, 1929. It was the day the stock market crashed. The stock prices dropped tremendously and masses of people tried to sell their stock, but no one could or would buy them. The stock market seemed to everyone the most efficient way to get rich, and it quickly became the way to bankruptcy. Many people before The Great Depression had money in the banks that invested into the stock market for them. When the market crashed the people lost all there money and the banks were forced to close. That caused massive panic across the country. People saw that banks were closing all over the country, and went to their banks and withdrew all the money they had in their savings. The massive withdraws that were happening forced those banks to close. The businesses and big cooperation's were also affected by losing their own capital by bank closures or by the stock market crash. They then started cutting back their workers salary or cutting their hours and even firing them. In 1932 the unemployment count had drastically risen from 12 to 15 million unemployed workers to almost 25 to 30 percent of the workforce. It also didn't help that consumers were not buying anymore.
